KINGS HEATH WON BY 2 WICKETS

The Kings Heath chase of 149 got off to an excellent start, the previously untested opening partnership of Shak Syed (28) and Rizwan (41) put on exactly 50 for the first wicket. Kings Heath were cruising at 81 for 1 in the 16th over, however the Kings Heath middle order were decimated following the wicket of Rizwan, and a collapse to 84 for 6 saw the anxiety levels rise on the watching Kings Heath team and supporters. A partnership of 51 between Adnan Ali and Josh Williams calmed the nerves, taking the team onto the brink at 135 for 6 before Adnan was bowled for an assured 21. Despite the wicket of Sean Brown with one run required to win, Wahid Chishti hit the winning single through the covers to secure the Sunday teams’ eleventh victory since May by two wickets. Josh finished on his highest score of the year, a carefree 39 not out including four fours and a six over Jattin Patel at midwicket. Earlier in the afternoon saw a solid start by the PHMCC opening batsmen moving onto 39 without loss, having deciding to play out the pace of Shak without losing wickets. Despite Sean Brown conceding a six over mid on in the first over, he bowled accurately and was difficult to get of the square. The introduction of Rizwan into the attack brought three quick wickets, including a suberb bouncer that tangled up the opposition keeper, with Wahid giving excellent support at the other end, starting with two maidens. Jag Patel came on to bowl crafty leg spin, encouraging aggressive strokeplay and picking up two wickets. Amit Patel walked to the wicket batting at number 10 for the visitors, and having played for Kings Heath as recently as July, received special treatment from the Kings Heath eleven. He was clapped to the wicket by the fielders, and before facing his first ball was greeted with six slips and two close catchers in front of square. Having got off the mark two overs later with a pull behind square on the leg side for a boundary, two balls later played an expansive drive over a full ball from Adnan, and was bowled.
