KINGS HEATH WON BY 3 WICKETS
Tight bowling from Shak Syed and Adam Badger resulted in the pair taking five Alvechurch wickets between them, for a combined total of 35 runs. Aman, Crocker and Javod Malik all bowled economically to restrict Alvechurch to a respectable 152 for 8 from their 40 overs. In reply, all of the Kings Heath top four got starts, Sam Crocker (25) and Olly O’Brien (17) setting a solid opening stand, and three and four Bernard O’Connor (12) and top scorer Mike Barlow (28) exhibited excellent application against a strong Alvechurch bowling attack. Wahid Chishti and Shak Syed fell cheaply, and despite Aman Khan getting a quick 25, the loss of seven wickets meant Kings Heath was under significant pressure to chase down the total. Stand in skipper Adnan Ali showed commendable restraint during his unbeaten 19, experience making him aware of the need to be at the crease and shepherd the team across the line during a crucial period. This was only the Sunday teams’ second victory since the 2007 season, and shows encouraging signs for the rest of the season.
