KINGS HEATH WON BY 5 WICKETS
Sheldon Marlborough batted first and were instantly under pressure, losing a wicket without a run on the board. Kings Heath opening bowlers were under 14 Louie Turpie, on Sunday 1st team debut, and Rizwan. Sheldon battled from 11 for 2 to 130 for 5 before closing their innings on 148 for 6. Kings Heath were fully in control throughout the innings, Sheldon were seemingly incapable of rotating the strike by getting quick ones and twos and were showing a strange reluctance to play any big shots even in the dying overs. Louie Turpie returned to complete his spell for the death overs, and bowled excellent away swing while maintaining an excellent economy rate, finishing with figures of 8-4-17-1.
Jattin Patel took eight runs from the first over of the Kings Heath reply, but the team were put under pressure in the second over when Rizwan was caught behind, playing a back foot forcing shot away from his body, during the chase of 149 to win. Jattin (30) and Parminder Bhomra added 77, Parminder was dropped in the slips on two occasions but demonstrated clinical judgement with his cover drives, hitting 12 boundaries in his fifty. The rate of scoring slowed considerably once Jattin had been caught, but Bernard O’Connor helped raise the score to 130 for 2 before Parminder and Bernard were dismissed without any further addition to the total. This brought Gregg Arrand and Sunday debutant Under 14 batsman Josh Baker together at the crease. Gregg scored all 11 runs of their partnership before spooning a catch to cover off the bowling of former Kings Heath player Jerome Greaves, son of 3rd team legend George. Matt Wright joined Josh Baker at the wicket, and with the scores level Josh Baker glided the winning boundary through third man, finishing unbeaten on 11. Kings Heath scored the runs required with five overs to spare, eventually coasting to victory on a day with more sideline support than is usual for an away fixture.
